We have broken our Search into many different categories to help you find better what you’re looking for on the Story of My Life website.

People:

Enter any information you know about the person that might produce a result. Names, characteristics that might be in the user’s Profile, anything that might bring up a match. Please note that you will not see results if the person has not made his/her information public or you are not granted access to view them.
  • Sort: you may sort your results by clicking on the column headers:
    • Name: sort alphabetically by the Author’s Name (first, last, middle, maiden, nickname etc)
    • City: sort alphabetically by the Author’s City (location).
    • Story ID: sort alphabetically by Story of My Life ID of the author.

Groups:

Looking for a particular Group or a member in a Group or a post from a Group? Use any keywords in this Groups tab to find results from our Groups sections. Remember that Groups are people united around a topic, interest, or area of common pursuit. Please note that you will not see results if the Group is not set to be available to the public or you are not granted access to the Group.
  • Sort: you may sort your results by clicking on the column headers:
    • Name: sort alphabetically by Last Name, First Name of the Group’s owner.
    • Group: sort alphabetically by the Group’s Name.
    • Story ID: sort alphabetically by Story of My Life ID of the Group’s owner.
  • Add to Favorites: you may add this Story to your Favorites list

Stories:

Search in the Stories tab to find specific results from peoples’ Stories in the Story of My Life system. You can add names, locations, ideas, anything and find results from Stories of people’s legacies. Please note that you will not see results if the Stories or profiles are not public or you are not granted access to them.
  • Sort: you may sort your results by clicking on the column headers:
    • Name: sort alphabetically by the author’s Last Name, First Name.
    • Story ID: sort alphabetically by the author’s Story ID (Story of My Life Identification Name).
    • Description: sort alphabetically by the description of the Story.
  • Add to Favorites: you may add this Story to your Favorites list

Files:

Searching for files such as photos, videos, documents or music? Use this Files tab to search among all of the files that people have stored in their Vaults. Please note that you will not see results if the Files are not public or you are not granted access to view them.
  • Sort: you may sort your results by clicking on the column headers:
    • Name: soft alphabetically by the user’s Last Name, First Name who uploaded the File..
    • Uploaded on: sort chronologically by the Date on which the File was uploaded to the system.
    • Size: sort numerically by Size of the File.
  • Add to Favorites: you may add this File to your Favorites list

Events:

Search for Events that might interest you, or Events coming up or in the past (archives). Enter information such as title of the Event, Location, Date etc. Please note that you will not see Event results if they are not public or you are not granted access to view them.
  • Sort: you may sort your results by clicking on the column headers:
    • Events: sort alphabetically by the Event name/ title.
    • Type: sort alphabetically by the Type of Event (Friends, Family, etc).
    • Posted by: sort alphabetically by the Last Name, First Name of the person who posted the Event.
    • Date: sort chronologically by the Date and Time of the Event.
  • Add to Favorites: you may add this Event to your Favorites list.

Advanced Search:

This tab is where you can really get down to a specific detail or details about any user whom you’re searching for on the Story of My Life site. We have over 36 characteristics by which you can search to find people. You may be looking for a long lost relative, or simply finding people who match your interests. Narrow your searches by adding more criteria, expand your searches by using fewer criteria.
