The plane sank into the grass runway at Pagan, only two or three civilians were on board, the rest were troops from Burma heading towards the northern territory of Burma. As you can see the plane was filled to capacity, I taking a jumpseat right behind the pilot on the flight to Mandalay in the antique, often sputtering F-27 (literally on one flight I saw them attempting to manually throw the props on these planes, and there were incidences of crashes around Burma at this time. I am seen at the temple in Mandalay, walking with a blue shirt and black shoulder bag...a mere 17 when this picture was made.
