tulips

I believe you have to suffer through winter to get the reward of Spring. This year we had a much cooler March and April and our tulips were later. Then, we had the first May snow fall with accumulation since the 1960's after many of the tulips had bloomed. They survived the snow and the freezing temperatures on the following night too. Others have bloomed since. Some of them have firm, thick stems that boast a vibrant, large flower. Others are a more delicate size. Prior to the snow, Becky came over and she and mom picked flowers. It was interesting watching them change shades in the vase. One red flower changed to a lavender. As the petals droop or change, they can look like an exotic flower. I love tulips the way they are in nature. They symbolize hope. They also remind me of my great-grandmother who was born in the Netherlands. Did I mention that we have lot and lots of tulip bulbs. They line the property and are also in the back yard. People stop and compliment them. It is a wonderful gift to the community. I was outside on this lovely day and enjoyed them with my mom.
