My mother used to tell me that a "buttermilk sky" was a sure sign that frozen precipitation was in the forecast, which is a big deal here in Texas since we don't get much of it. I suppose she learned this from Granddad, back in the days when there was no radar - or at least no TV upon which to view radar. I've been excited all day about the predictions of frozen rain and have been keeping a close eye on the current conditions, as if neglecting them for too long will cause my ice producing clouds to take a sudden left and head for Oklahoma. When the weather service updated the winter storm watch to a warning late this afternoon, my heart leapt. YEA! My work had paid off. When I left the office with my just-in-case, work-from-home files in hand, sure enough, there was a luscious pink buttermilk sky leading the parade. | |
