I loved my job at the Waterbury (Conn.) Republican-American so much that I would have paid them to work there! As a political reporter, I got to interview local, state and nationally known politicians. I wrote a weekly local column that often stirred up a hornet's nest among politicos. After moving to Cape Cod in 1983, I bummed around for a couple of years, freelancing and doing some "stringing" for the Cape Cod times before being hired full-time. What a change! Now my stories focused on the environment, and my "beat" included the Cape Cod National Seashore and the Audubon Society. Walking the sandy beaches in search of stranded whales or boats gone aground and occasionally sent to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket by plane or ferry for stories. I left in 1996 to go back to school to pursue theological studies. |  |
