It Has Been A Rough Year

I am adding this additional chapter to my introduction, because after I initially wrote the introduction, it was very difficult to come back to it and try to make sense of all that I have experienced through the various stages of my life and the trials that I have endured or overcome.  I wish ...

We present this special Veterans Day 2009 post with memory Veterans Day photos and quotes with all respect due. Veterans Day 2009 is celebrated today as a tribute to all those World War heroes who died in the war but also to show our respect to over 25 millions veterans who survived the war.

Royal College Curepipe – Mauritian Veterans Tribute

In Mauritius the event was celebrated on Sunday and the majority of the world’s countries are doing it today. Even here we do have some veterans but sadly I was not able to gather their photos for this post. So as a tribute to all those who died and also those who survived the wars our planet faced not so long ago, here is a very small collection of memory photos of the World Wars and also some saying worth a read on this special day.

But the freedom that they fought for, and the country grand they wrought for, Is their monument to-day, and for aye.

But fame is theirs – and future days
On pillar’d brass shall tell their praise
Shall tell – when cold neglect is dead
“These for their country fought and bled.”

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned.  When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

And to end this little tribute article, how can we forget Henry Allingham who recently died (Read here). Two great wars which resulted in millions of death. It is the story of fathers who never saw their son and daughters grown up. It is the story of husband who died with their beloved black and white photo in their hand amids the fire power. It is a day many of YOU will also remember maybe your grandfather who was among them.

Alas...

Nothing we say on behalf of the men who sacrificed their lives for us can ever be enough.

agree

It'd be great if we could celebrate Veteran's day by bringing all the troops home.
