What would Christmas time be without music? There are songs that I learned in my childhood that still play inside of my head during the holiday season.
One of my favorite tunes is by Alvin and The Chipmunks. When I received my second record player one of the gifts that came with it was an LP by the Chipmunks.
While a new generation of children are being introduced to the antics of Alvin, Simon and Theodore, I remember when they were just puppets. They made frequent appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and other variety shows. Dave Seville was their straight man. Eventually they were popular enough to become animated characters.
There was a song on that LP that I just loved. I am not sure if I can remember all of the lyrics. But, I will give it my best shot.
Christmas Don't Be Late!
Christmas, Christmas time is here Time for toys and time for cheer We've been good but we can't last Hurry Christmas, hurry fast, Want a plane that loops de loops Me, I want a hula hoop We can hardly stand the wait Please Christmas don't be late!
I am amazed that I still remember those lyrics. I would sit and listen to the LP for hours. I would sing right along with them in the dining room of the house.
This is still one of my favorite Christmas tunes. I just finished watching the original television clip on You Tube. I actually remembered the lyrics correctly!
If you have never heard this song here is the link! I hope you enjoy listening to the Chipmunks! Christmas Don't Be Late
