The Grinch Who Stole Christmas was my favorite book when I was a child. I must have read that book a thousand times. My cousin Jim and I wore through two copies of that book, dog eared and ripped and stained. When they came out with the movie we bought the video and watched it - December, January, July - whenever. I could recite all the words by heart.
Jim has a little brother named Dennis and we'd like to tease him. He'd always come by and ask us to read the book to him too but we'd blow him off and he'd get mad and pout. One year I decided to be nicer and let him play with us.
At first we made him put on reindeer antlers and tied him to our sled and tried to make him pull us around. Later we decided to make him the Grinch, so we went around the house trying to figure out our arsenal.
We got a red t-shirt, and some santa stuff. But how to make his skin green..... paint? None in the garage (thank goodness). make-up? My mother had some green eyeshadow but not enough to cover his entire body. FOOD DYE!! We took the tube and squirted it all over Dennis's body. He started crying but Jim held him down and we smeared it all over his face and hair and hands and legs.
We made him put on the red shirt and santa hat and tooks some presents on the sled and went to show the family.
Man did we get we get in big big trouble. Unfortunately no one thought to take a picture, but it was pretty ingenious for little kids.
