The first thing that happened on arrival in Shanghai was getting very lost. I found my way in the end and had the fun of the most crowded underground train I had ever seen. I had never seen so many people in my life, you could clearly see that China was the most populated country on earth.

As it was so hot I made sure I was out to explore the city as early as I could. I went round the Bund which looked more than a little bit like London.

I went to the top of the pearl tower which had a great view of the city and once again looked very much like London. The glass floor bit was good.

Below they had a museum type place with loads of things from the opium war days, interesting and took up another couple of hours.

I had a bit of shopping to do while I was in the city. Which took up another day with a walking tour of the city.

One of the things I didn't like about Shanghai was at the hostel. It was a great place but everyone there seemed to have their heads deeply into their laptop computers. You always get one or two of these people in most hostels but here everyone was like this. There was very little conversation and despite the place being busy I didn't seem to get to know anyone.

I would have liked to have stayed longer but I needed to get out the city smog to see the 21st centurys longest eclipse of the sun................
