JD Salinger, author of
The Cather in the Rye and many other works, has passed away of natural causes at the age of 91.
His main character, his most famous, Holden Caulfied, is a 17 year old witty, sarcastic, paranoid, lying male with a hatred of phonies and a prediliction for older woman whom he invites for cocktails despite him not being of legal drinking age.
"
It's funny. All you have to do is say something nobody understands and they'll do practically anything you want them to."
JD himself was quite the recluse, distressed by the fame and public attention his writing bought.
Through great characters, an author lives on forever. One wonders how much of Holdon was based on the ravings that went on inside Salinger's own mind. None will know, because the little we know of him is through his writing, what he presented to us, through the lens of his words.
Rest In Peace, JD Salinger (1919-2010)
