Cannes France Second Residence After graduation from the University of Arizona Tucson with my BFA I was asked to go to Europe to assist my father with several projects related to music as well as gained contact to study painting in France during this period. Along with my studies with Gustave Nebel I traveled and conducted research with my father. We went to England, Benalux, Paris, Lyon, Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Beureuth, Dresden, Weimar DDR, Leipzig and to Zakopane Poland as well as to Italy- Florence, Milan, Torino and Rome..clear down to Naples.
I had the experience of seeing the great museums of art, each day constantly sketching or painting on location. I worked extensively from life...never a photograph crossed my easle. During this time I was influenced by Blake, Fuseli, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Pieter Brugel...and reached out, with Nebels help to realize the power of color and the Fauves during these six months. I met artist after artist in the various cities, towns and villiages we would go. In Paris and London I met legends of the keyboard, and assisted him in his research when he went (again) to Weimar at the Goethe-Schiller/Liszt Archive. As a young man I was enthusiastic and well interested in art...wheather classical or modern. During our one week visit to Weimar..I had the opportunity to visit again the Bauhause Museum and several painters that I had met, that were still alive, a second generation from the original. I fell in love with the work of Goethe again and began to write short stories and poems. | Comments No Comments have been posted yet. |
