FAQ - Guardians

Questions

What is a Guardian?
A Guardian can be assigned to manage your Story and files in the event that you are unable to, in order to carry on your Story and Legacy. To assign a Guardian to your account, choose someone who is capable of acting in your best interests according to your wishes. A Guardian has access rights to your files, and he or she may be able to edit your Story or other features on your Story website. Since your Vault may contain sensitive files, many chose to have a spouse, kin, or legal representative with access rights to these.

What rights does a Guardian have with regards to my Story?
In the beta launch, a Guardian can only add new information to your Story, approve Comments (if approval is required), read Alerts, respond to Invitations, and assign another Guardian to your Story. In the future this will be even more customizable. The point of having Guardians for your Story is to build upon the connections of people to people and intertwine your Story with future generations.

How many Guardians can I have?
There is no limit to how many Guardians that you can establish. It’s always a good idea to have more than one in case Story of My Life cannot reach the first one. Story of My Life contacts in the sequential order in which you have prioritized them until one is reached.

How will you contact my Guardians?
The Story of My Life will first attempt to contact the first Guardian on your list (in priority of their ordering) by email and ask them to login using their login ID and password information given to them by you. If after 30 days there is no response, someone will attempt to phone or use other method(s) of communication such as a post office letter to find out if the Guardian is still available. If after a time this Guardian is determined to be unreachable, the system will move to the next Guardian and so forth, until one is reached.

If they cannot remember their login information, they must contact our Help Desk and verify that they are who they say they are and the Story of My Life staff will determine whether access will be granted.

If no Guardian is reached, your Story will be “frozen” in time as you have left it.

What if my Guardian takes over my site but I don’t want him/her to?
In this rare case, if you have not responded to Story of My Life’s repeated attempts to contact you, but your Guardian has responded and taken over your Story site, and you did not mean for that to happen, please contact us at privacy@eravita.com and explain the situation. You must have your Story of My Life ID (login) and password information. We will contact you to sort through the issue. I believe I am the Guardian of a Story, but I cannot login using the information I was provided.
If you believe that you should be granted access rights and Guardianship rights to someone’s Story, please contact our Help Desk and provide information verifying that you are the person who is entered into the User’s lists of Guardians. We will verify your information and identity, and we will check this against the Author’s Guardian list. These cases will be determined on a case by case basis of their own merit. If you have documentation proving that you are the Guardian such as an email from the Story of My Life system, please provide this information to the Help Desk as well. After determining that you are the legal Guardian and should have access rights as a Guardian to a Story you will be given an access code by the Help department.
