Kate Atwood is the Founder of
Kate’s Club, Inc., a not-for-profit organization empowering children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling. A native of Charlottesville, Va., Kate graduated from the University of Virginia in May 2000. She began her professional career with the Chick-fil-A Bowl, an Atlanta-based collegiate football bowl game. In 2001, she joined The GEM Group, a global sports and entertainment marketing agency, leading the account team for a global corporate client and its sponsorship with NASCAR.
In November 2002, Kate made a choice to pursue her dream of starting an organization for bereaved children. When she was only 12 years old, Kate lost her mom, Audrey, to a courageous battle with breast cancer. Recognizing the importance of support after such a life changing event, Kate’s vision was to build a community of support for kids that provided a place for them to have fun, feel safe and learn to cope with their grief. In 2003, Kate created and established Kate’s Club.
Celebrating five years of support to grieving children and their families, Kate’s Club provides an uplifting place where children and teens gather for social, recreational and emotional support programs. Programs include monthly Club Outings, Clubhouse Saturdays, along with support groups and an annual overnight Camp. All programs are free to the children of Kate’s Club and are supported entirely by donations.
Kate has received honors including being a 2003 City of Atlanta’s “Outstanding Atlantan”; a 2005 Turner Broadcasting System’s “Pathfinder”; the youngest honoree recognized in the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2006 feature “Up and Comers: Top 40 under 40”; and being honored by Georgia Trend Magazine as one of Georgia’s “40 under 40 - Rising Stars in Business, Education, Politics, Science, and the Arts.” She has been featured in
People Magazine (1/22/07), and has appeared on CNN and ABC’s "The View" on behalf of Kate’s Club.
Kate resides in the Virginia Highlands area with her dog Josie.
