I began writing this story in 2010 and made a difficult decision to begin by telling the story of my career focused on my work and positions rather than on my family as it became obvious that though they are connected they are difficult to do together.
My intent is to perhaps show that careers evolve in directions not always predictable or planned. I reflect back and know that I was extremely blessed in both family and work life spending most of my time doing things I loved to do.
I will end my work story in 2003 when I became fully retired. I do however volunteer extensively now to stay both mentally and physically active. I am a counselor at our Silicon Valley SCORE chapter and am the marketing chair. I volunteer at Job Corps San Jose in giving mock interviews to "students" who are completing their training there to find jobs, sometimes for the first time. I also stay active in our church, Saratoga Federated.
I was fortunate that I could stop needing a "paying job" when I was 69 years old although I found I could continue to contribute and someone would compensate me even in my 70's.
