I often remark that, in my "retirement," I'm so busy I wonder how I ever found time to work. Days fly by, crammed full of freelance writing, volunteer work and oh, yes, an occasional "date" with my ever-patient husband, Rafael.
We met in 1999, both having lost our beloved spouses years earlier. Rafael had temporarily returned to his native Mexico City but, in what I consider a "God thing," he came back to PA at about the same time I moved there from Cape Cod. He rented a unit in my apartment complex, directly upstairs from me. I met him and one of his two adult sons the day he moved in, and a year later we got married!
We're both active in our church, involved in the leadership of its seniors ministry and on the missions task force. We're also "gym rats," frequenting our local YMCA four or five days a week. Rafael is a talented artist and loves to sit at his desk and sketch. I share Bible-based messages and glimpses into my past - the inspiring moments -as part of monthly services at a nearby nursing home.
I thoroughly enjoy telling "people" stories. It was my favorite part of the work I used to do as a newspaper reporter. I'd love to write the story of your life too, so please feel free to contact me at
